2015, 2013, and 2011, Higuey, Dominican Republic—Guests helped support the Sinai School, located about 45 minutes from Club Med Punta Cana, which serves 180 impoverished children, making their schooling easier with donations of pens, notebooks, pencils, coloring books, crayons, binders, colored paper, and other school supplies.
2014, San Juan, Puerto Rico—During Olivia’s Caribbean Equality and Leadership Cruise, Olivia Gives made financial and in-kind donations of food, clothing, and other personal items to Casa Protegida Julia de Burgos, an organization founded in 1979 by a small group of women and men to help women who had lived through the bitter experience of domestic abuse with their children by providing shelter, protection, counseling, education, and job skills training.
2010, Haiti—Immediately following the devastating earthquake in Haiti, Olivia Travel partnered with gay travel companies Atlantis Events and RSVP Cruises to form the American Red Cross LGBT Haiti Relief Fund. Within days of the fund’s creation, it had already raised more money than many large corporate donors. Through Judy’s efforts, Olivia Travel became a founding partner in the USAID LGBT Global Development, created to support and fund LGBT organizations throughout the developing world.
2010, Roatán, Honduras—A group of Olivia guests delivered nearly $5,000 in food, supplies, and cash to a children’s orphanage and day care center in Roatán.
2010, Baja, Mexico—Olivia donated clothing to the indigenous Seri women in northern Baja, as well as donated birding supplies and Spanish-language books to a young group of eco-minded women dedicated to saving the local birds in their community.
2008, Eastern Caribbean Islands—Olivia’s “Cruise for a Cause” raised over $125,000 in support of the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation, which is dedicated to research, education, and advocacy related to breast cancer and women’s health. Through a “walk-the-decks” program and a celebrity auction featuring donations from Melissa Etheridge, Wynonna Judd, Indigo Girls, Billie Jean King, k.d. lang, and Heart, Olivia raised record dollars in support of this worthy foundation.
